From start to finish

How a repipe goes, day by day

No guessing about what happens when. This is the order a repipe follows, from the permit to the last folder of papers.

  1. Before the repipe

The permit is filed and the new runs are planned so the wall openings are as few and as small as possible.

  2. Day one

Floors and furniture are covered, the water is shut off and the first rooms get their new lines. The water is back on by the evening.

  3. Day two

The rest of the house is done room by room, and every new run is pressure tested before its wall is closed.

  4. Last day

The openings are patched, the old pipe is hauled away and every fixture is run and checked for leaks.

  5. After the repipe

The inspection is booked and passed, then you get one folder with the closed permit, the photos and the warranty papers.

Sample reviews

Our old Fan District house had leaked three times in a year. They put the cost of more patching beside the cost of a repipe and let us choose. The walls were patched neatly at the end.

A pipe burst under the kitchen sink on a Sunday night. They talked me through shutting the water off on the phone and had a plumber here within the hour.

Another company wanted to dig up the yard. These folks ran a camera down the line first, found roots at one joint and cleared them for a fraction of the price.

No hot water the morning of a family visit. They told us the price on the phone, came the same day and the new heater was in by dinner.

Written price up front and no surprises on the final bill. The plumber put down drop cloths and showed us where our main shut-off is.

A word before you call

Sample letter

Most of the houses we work in around Richmond have pipes older than their owners realize. Many have been patched more than once by people who never came back. Plumbing like that deserves someone who will slow down and look.

So we keep the work simple. The plumber who finds the problem writes the price, and the price lists every part of the job before anything starts. If the pipes have years left, we say so. If they don't, we show you why.

We would rather lose a job by being honest about it than win one by leaving something out. That's the whole of our approach, and every page of this site is written the same way.

Monthly payment options available

A new water heater or a repipe doesn't have to come out of one paycheck. Ask about monthly payment options when we give you your written quote.

Questions

Questions we're often asked

  • Which towns do you cover?

Richmond, Glen Allen and Midlothian, plus the nearby parts of Henrico and Chesterfield counties. If you are not sure your street is in range, put the address in the form and we confirm before booking.

  • How much is a service call?

You get the service call price when you book, before anyone comes out. If you go ahead with the repair we quote, ask whether the service call is credited toward it and we tell you exactly how it works for that visit.

  • Do you charge more for nights and weekends?

After-hours and weekend visits cost more than a weekday visit, and you hear the rate on the phone before you book. If the problem can safely wait until the morning, for example a slow drain with another bathroom working, we say so.

  • Where is my main water shut-off?

In most Richmond-area houses it sits where the water line comes through the foundation, in the basement, the crawl space or a utility closet, and there is a second valve at the meter by the street. If you can't find yours, ask on any visit and the plumber shows you.

  • Do I need a permit for a new water heater?

In most of the area, yes. Replacing a water heater is permitted work, and the building office for Richmond, Henrico or Chesterfield inspects it. We pull the permit with whichever office covers your address.

  • Do you offer financing on a repipe or a new water heater?

Yes. Ask about monthly payment options when we give you the written quote.
