Plumbing Services in Richmond, Henrico and Chesterfield

Copper water pipes joined at a tee fitting

What we do

Our plumbing services in Richmond cover the five jobs that make up almost every call to a house in the area: stopping water that is going where it shouldn’t, clearing drains, finding and fixing leaks, keeping the hot water coming, and replacing supply pipe that has reached the end of its life. Each one has its own page with the details, the common causes and the questions people ask on the phone.

How every job starts

Whatever the job, the first step is the same. You book a service call and hear its price before anyone drives out. The plumber looks at the problem and at the plumbing around it, explains what failed and puts the repair price in writing. Nothing gets fixed until you say yes, and before we leave, you know where your main shut-off is.

The five services

  • Emergency plumbing. Burst and frozen pipes, sewer backups, overflowing toilets and leaking water heaters, with the after-hours rate told to you first.
  • Drain cleaning. Slow sinks and tubs, clogged toilets and main line backups, with a camera look at the line when a clog keeps coming back.
  • Leak repair. Drips under sinks, running toilets, ceiling stains and water bills that jump, traced to the source before any wall is opened.
  • Water heater repair and replacement. Tank and tankless, gas and electric, repaired when it is worth it and replaced with the permit pulled when it isn’t.
  • Repiping. Galvanized, polybutylene and worn copper supply lines replaced with PEX or copper, with the water back on each evening.

Repair first, replace when it is time

Most calls end with a repair: a valve, a fitting, a section of pipe or a heating element. Replacement only comes up when the pipe or the heater is failing along its length, the repair is a big share of the cost of a new one, or the same problem keeps coming back. When that happens you get both numbers on the same page and the choice stays yours.

Built around old houses and cold snaps

Richmond-area houses range from row houses with pipe from several eras to newer subdivisions with plastic supply lines and garage water heaters. A few hard freezes each winter split pipes in crawl spaces and outside walls, and wooded lots send roots into sewer lines all year. Our work is shaped by all of that, and each service page explains how.

We work in Richmond, Glen Allen and Midlothian. The service area page explains what changes from town to town.

The services

Each kind of work, in brief

  • Worker opening the door of a white van on a street of houses

    Emergency plumbing

A burst pipe, an overflowing toilet or no water at all: same-day visits when we can, with the after-hours rate told to you before we come.

When water is on the floor, the call goes to the front of the list. We tell you how to shut off the water, when a plumber can be there and what the visit costs before you book it.

  • Chrome sink drain with water drops

    Drain cleaning

Slow sinks, backed-up toilets and floor drains that gurgle, cleared and checked, with a camera look at the line when the clog keeps coming back.

Most clogs are grease, hair or wipes a few feet down the line, and a cable clears them in one visit.

  • Worker in a hard hat and safety vest holding a pipe wrench

    Leak repair

Drips under the sink, wet spots on the ceiling and a water bill that jumps for no reason, found and fixed with a written price first.

A leak you can see is usually a fitting, a valve or a supply line. A leak you can't see shows up as a stain, a damp smell or a meter that keeps turning with every tap off.

  • Unfinished basement with a tank water heater and exposed pipes

    Water heater repair and replacement

No hot water, rusty water or a tank that leaks at the base: repaired when it's worth it, replaced with tank or tankless when it isn't.

A water heater that stops heating is often a thermostat, an element or a pilot problem, not a whole new tank.

  • Gloved plumber fitting a brass connector onto blue PEX water lines

    Repiping

Old pipes that leak again and again, low pressure or discolored water, replaced with new lines and the walls patched behind us.

When the same pipes keep failing, patching them one leak at a time costs more than it saves. A repipe replaces the old supply lines with new PEX or copper.

Questions

Questions about our services

  • Which service do I book if I am not sure what is wrong?

Book a service call and describe what you are seeing or hearing. The visit starts the same way whichever service it leads to, and the plumber tells you which one fits, or that nothing needs fixing yet.

  • Can one visit cover a repair now and a price for later?

Yes. Ask for both and the quote shows them side by side. Plenty of owners fix today's leak and keep the repipe or water heater figures on file for when they are ready.

  • Do you install fixtures I bought myself?

Often, yes. Tell us the faucet, toilet or disposal when you book, and the plumber checks it fits your connections before fitting it. If a part is missing or the wrong size, we say so before the visit is over.

  • Do you do commercial plumbing?

No. We work on houses, townhomes and condos only. For a restaurant, a store or an office building we are glad to tell you who we would call.
